Carlson was selected to provide design/build construction services for a new 300,000 square foot USDA food production plant and corporate headquarters for Great Kitchens, Inc., an international manufacturer of frozen foods. The precast reinforced concrete, glass, masonry, and steel structure was a fast-tracked project requiring a phased design schedule to meet the owner’s needs. The complete facility program includes 35,000 square feet of Class A office and support space, a 100,000 square foot freezer, 30,000 square feet of production line space, 120,000 square feet of cooler space, 10,000 square feet of freezer shipping/receiving docks, and 5,000 square feet of mechanical space.
Carlson has completed an additional 4 projects for Great Kitchens including the enclosure of the mechanical treatment plant, the complete construction of a sauce cooling system and construction of an additional 5,000 square foot office space.
In addition to all site and construction management, Carlson self-performed portions of the carpentry, thermal and moisture protection, labor, site work, flooring, and interior finishes, equaling 20% of the work self-performed on the project. Carlson subcontracted 80% of the work, including site work, carpentry, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, concrete, structural steel erection, fire protection, installation of the wastewater plant, and some flooring.
